The Friendship Circle is an 8 session group for boys & girls in elementary school, and we offer groups several times over the year, generally in the fall & spring. We offer multiple groups or co-facilitated breakout groups for the younger and older elementary group members to have a chance to practice their skill-building in an age-appropriate setting. This group will help your child learn the fundamentals of friendship building skills, explore ways to understand and manage their emotions and behavior, and practice expressing empathy for self and others. Our ultimate goal is to increase comfort in social situations, while celebrating each child’s uniqueness and the commonalities that bring us all together! Through collaborative games, meaningful dialogue, and art activities, the group participants will learn specific strategies for calming down, working out peer conflicts, interacting with others, and increasing self-awareness and self-compassion.

GirlTalk Therapy Groups are the roots of GTTG. First offered in 2011, our teen girls groups have grown right along with us, with some groups running for several years at a time and new groups forming every year! Identity and Relationships are the heart & soul of our GirlTalk Therapy groups. We offer a home where girls can learn about who they are and where they can find connection and a sense of belonging.

GirlTalk Therapy groups support:

  • Emotion regulation skills
  • Self-compassion & self-worth
  • Developing a solid sense of self
  • Healthy friendships
  • Empathy building
  • Meaningful connection
  • Pro-social behavior (i.e. learning how to engage in the world in a way that supports your goals, dreams, and relationships)

These groups are led by Georgia Denny, LMSW. Georgia is a former school counselor with boundless energy and passion for this age group. Danielle Bartlett, LPC-Intern will co-facilitate the GirlTalk Therapy group.  For the 60 minute group sessions, your child can expect a mixture of focused skills-based learning along with active play, art activities, games and lots of fun!

  • Friendship Circle for elementary age runs 9am-10am
  • GirlTalk Therapy group for middle school runs 10am-11am
  • A possible 3rd group will run 11am-12pm

Please note that we also offer year-round ongoing groups for middle & high school students through our Identity & Relationship (mixed gender) and GirlTalk Therapy groups. Learn more.

GirlTalk Therapy

GirlTalk Therapy Groups are the roots of GTTG. First offered in 2011, our teen girls groups have grown right along with us, with some groups running for several years at a time and new groups forming every year! Identity and Relationships are the heart & soul of our GirlTalk Therapy groups. We offer a home where girls can learn about who they are and where they can find connection and a sense of belonging.

What makes a GirlTalk Therapy group different? Girls join our groups when they are struggling with depression & anxiety, when they've had challenging friendships & felt lonely or left out, when they've struggled with who they are & where they belong. Each group is unique and rooted in our values of integrating social-emotional skill-building with a non-curriculum, experiential experience that centers the girls and their goals & needs. Each group session allows the members to bring in what's present & needs attention, while over time building the scaffolding for solid coping skills for managing difficult emotions, challenging relationships, and using mindfulness & self-compassion skills to create a more stable & cohesive sense of self.

GirlTalk Therapy groups support:

  • Emotion regulation skills
  • Self-compassion & self-worth
  • Developing a solid sense of self
  • Healthy friendships
  • Empathy building
  • Meaningful connection
  • Pro-social behavior (i.e. learning how to engage in the world in a way that supports your goals, dreams, and relationships)

Current openings in Wednesday 6pm Identity & Relationship group (7th-10th grades) and Thursday 6pm GirlTalk Therapy group (high school) facilitated by Justin Givan-Gonzales. New sections of each group will be added as new members sign up. Contact us to get started!

Yoga for Anxiety Teen Girls Group

Looking for a gentle way to manage anxiety? Anxiety is a natural and healthy part of life but sometimes it can get bigger than we want and we need coping skills to manage it and people who can relate to it. In our Yoga for Anxiety Group, you will be guided through techniques to help soothe, relieve and relate to your anxiety that feels safe and approachable.

Led by Anastasia McAteer, who is both a trained yoga therapist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate under the supervision of Tracy Tanner, LPCS, LMFTS, this group fits those teens who have difficulty speaking up in groups and connecting with others because of their anxiety. Anastasia artfully blends techniques from modern neuroscience, yoga philosophy and yoga therapy, as well as the extensive training she had by yogi Genevieve Yellin, ERYT500, PYT1000. Anastasia keeps in mind that group therapy can be anxiety provoking for most seeking help in this area and is sensitive and as accommodating as possible. Participants can expect the 75 minute group to include gentle yoga movement, discussion time, breathing & meditation and some brief education on the neuroscience of anxiety. Group members will also receive take home handouts to deepen their practice between sessions.

Young Girls Group Forming Now!

We are opening a GirlTalk Therapy Group for young girls ages 7-10 this month! This will be a time limited group (running six weeks and taking off Spring Break week). This group will focus on how to build healthy friendships, read and follow social cues, and how to mend and repair relationship troubles. This group will also give girls practice and skills with emotion regulation in the social sphere, which is great for helping girls navigate challenging friendships and peer relationships.

This group will incorporate fun games and art activities to foster social and self awareness, as well as provide other girls the opportunity to learn they aren't the only ones to experience the highs and lows that come with making and keeping friends. If you have a client that could benefit from this group, please reach out and contact us to schedule an intake. We would love to launch this group by the end of February or beginning of March!

Start date will be determined after completing our intakes with the girls and their parents. If you think this group might be a good fit for your daughter, get in touch!

MIXED ROOTS

Mixed Roots is a 12-week process group aimed at improving interpersonal relationships and creating a healthy dialogue about what it means to be multiracial on both a personal and societal level. Through fun activities and meaningful discussions with a here-and-now focus, group members will have the opportunity to learn more about the global mixed-race community, explore the difficulties of 'fitting in', and process their own cultural identity in a safe space that fosters acceptance and self-awareness. Most importantly, members will get the chance to foster genuine relationships that celebrate the differences that make each girl unique as they learn to become more comfortable in the skin they're in.

Who is this group for?

  • Multiracial tween & teen girls looking for a safe space to explore their cultural identity and what it means to them
  • Adoptees in multicultural families
  • Girls who feel confused by their mixed-race identity
  • Those who are frustrated or tired of figuring out how to respond to the question "What are You?"

About the Facilitator: As a biracial woman herself, Danielle is no stranger to the cringe-worthy, but oh so common question of "What are you?" Using her own personal experience of growing up with a mixed-race identity, in addition to years of service in youth development, Danielle brings a passion for empowering youth to define their identity in their own words.

Wednesdays, 6:00 - 7:15pm at our CENTRAL location. $50/session.  Limited sliding scale spots available. Contact us today!
