If you're like us here at GirlTalk Therapy, chances are it's been a while since you've laced up your rollerskates and gone for a spin! Luckily, Austin is home to some great venues for channeling your inner roller derby king or queen, making this an easy and fun way to get in some exercise and family time with your tween. Just be prepared for her to skate laps around you!

After you've had a lesson at Playland or Austin Roller Rink, take those new skills to the Austin Convention Center this Saturday to cheer on the Texas Rollergirls in their final bout of the season! And because Austin is so roller-rink crazy, we're home to not one, but two roller derby leagues! Check out Texas Roller Derby on Oct. 6 for their Calvallo Cup! If you've never been to a roller derby show, it's a high-energy, rollicking good time that's family friendly and still "cool." These ladies are tough, strong, and they can fly on skates! 

If you're looking for something outside the box for you and your tween to share, we think roller derby will score you some pretty big points! Bonus if you let her bring a friend or two...Happy skating!
