Welcoming Lisa Garza!

Hello, GT Therapy community! I'm Lisa Garza, and I am thrilled to be joining the team as the newest LPC Associate. I’m excited to bring my unique perspective and experiences to this community.

This past May, after graduating with my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adam’s State in Colorado, I embarked on a three-week trip around Europe. It was a wonderful celebration of the years of hard work that brought me to where I am today. I visited family in the Netherlands, hosted a yoga retreat in Italy, and explored Spain and Portugal with my husband. Prior to my master's, I earned my bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Women’s Studies from Texas State.

I've been teaching yoga for ten years and practiced massage therapy for seven. Connecting with people and creating a safe space for them to explore the many layers of their lives has always been a passion of mine. During my internship at the YWCA, I was lucky enough to have worked with people from diverse backgrounds and all ages. I also helped start a movement therapy program, where we offered trauma-informed yoga to high-risk youth at a juvenile detention center once a week. This experience sparked my love for working with kids and teens. It’s such a critical time in their lives, with rapid brain development and emotional fluctuations. It was a privilege to show up as a supportive, calm adult, listen to their stories, understand their perspectives, and maybe draw something or listen to music together!

Outside of my professional work, I'm learning Spanish and have a deep love for travel and exploring other cultures. In my downtime, I enjoy making collages on my iPad, gardening, walking my dogs, and reading fantasy or historical fiction. I volunteer weekly at an equine therapy ranch and one of my long-term aspirations is to integrate equine psychotherapy into my practice.
