Therapeutic Approach:

Shawn is deeply passionate about encouraging social emotional wellbeing, working with individuals, families, and organizations to support mental wellness in our community.  He enjoys working in partnership with people to support them in connecting to their own strengths, values, and ability to  navigate life in a way that is meaningful and healthy. Shawn has worked with teens, young adults, and families from many different backgrounds.

He has extensive experience working with young men and adults around male identity. If you are struggling with challenges to your emotional wellbeing, Shawn can work with you to develop healthy and purposeful ways of learning from your experience and living from your values.

Shawn specializes in mindfulness, compassion focused, and motivational approaches to therapy and believes that we all heal and grow through caring relationships with ourselves and each other. He offers a calm, caring, space for clients to look deeply into their experience and explore new ways of meeting life's challenges. Some areas of expertise include, stress management, anxiety, addiction and recovery, communication, and mental health maintenance.

PROFESSIONAL Background:

Shawn has worked in social services beginning in high school, Graduating  from Texas State University with a focus in Community Counseling. He worked for six years at Austin Child Guidance Center with teens and families both individually and in group settings. Having worked in both the juvenile justice system and in private school settings, he has extensive experience working with young men. He has worked with teens in recovery as well as teens and adults who identify as gifted.   

Shawn was most recently the mental health director at Amala Foundation where he developed programming around mindfulness, social emotional leadership, community wellness, mental health, racial healing, and healing centered facilitation. He facilitated peer supported wellness circles and mental health education for teens, families, teachers, and administrators. He also  facilitated youth retreats for refugee and gifted teens including music camps and youth summits. 

Shawn facilitates community programming and professional training for schools, rehabilitation centers, social service organizations, social justice organizations, and criminal justice organizations. At the root of his work is the vision of helping to inspire a compassionate and mindful approach to engaging with the challenge of building a healthy and just society together.
