Emotional Intelligence Matters
In January I had the privilege of being invited to speak at the St. Andrew’s Parent Association meeting that is held once every quarter. The topic I presented on was about supporting your child’s mental health and well-being through neuroscience-based strategies. I was so pleased to find out after the talk that this meeting was one of their highest attendance. I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t me that drew the audience ;)
Parents are eager to learn how to help their children thrive and deal with their feelings. Feelings can be big and complicated, and as parents, we can feel lost to know how what our child needs and how to support them. Parents want their children to develop into healthy and well-functioning adults. Sometimes the job of parenting can feel a little scary - like we’re going to mess up. But, with the help of some scientific driven information about the brain and the belief that emotional intelligence matters (it really does, lots of research to support that this is a good belief to have!), parenting can feel less daunting and more guided.
In an effort to capture the fundamentals of emotional intelligence and help as many people as possible understand it, we’ve come up with a useful little download that you’ll want to read today. Understanding is the first step to developing it in your child.
